Roland Hunter Jazz Workshop

This workshop is designed for a range of guitarists from
those less experienced but with a basic knowledge of music theory through to
advanced-level players who may not be so familiar with jazz practices.
Topics to be covered in the workshop will include: Playing the II V I
progression; Breaking down the recipe for a jazz solo: (Arpeggiation, Scalar
material, Harmonic Substitution, Articulation and Phrasing); and Vocal Accompaniment. Questions
welcome!
Toronto-based
jazz guitarist Roland Hunter has performed with many of Canada's
leading jazz musicians including: Terry Clarke, Neil Swainson, Pat
Collins and Alex Dean. A graduate of the York University Jazz Program
in 1995, career highlights include meeting and studying with one of his guitar
idols, Jim Hall, at the Banff Summer Jazz workshop in 1994 and
his ongoing musical association with prominent jazz drummer Bob MacClaren.
Roland has also been involved in Indo-Jazz fusion projects (the band Aparna)
andcollaborations with Latin-jazz players such as conguero Luisito
Orbegoso. Roland is very active as a guitar teacher
as well as coaching many student ensembles out of his home music studio in
Toronto.
