About Us
The St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage has been presenting music in the village of Morrisburg Ontario since 2007. What began as a showcase of local artists in one or two shows per season has now grown to a seven to eight show season which runs from Fall to Spring each year. We promote both emerging artists and established professional musicians from all parts of the world, with an emphasis on Canadian talent performing original music. We seek to introduce audiences to a diversity of genres and styles of music, including blues, folk, jazz, alt country, roots and indie rock. Our primary activity is our annual music series, but we also offer workshops in musical and creative development, including workshops in jazz and fingerstyle guitar, vocal technique, songwriting and performance. We present our performances at the Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg, an intimate 275 seat venue.
The Stage was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2007 and received its charitable registration in 2013. We have been fortunate to receive support over the years from the Department of Canadian Heritage Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Ontario Arts Council, the SOCAN Foundation, the Municipaliities of South Dundas and North Dundas, the Five B Family Foundation, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and have received past support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. We also rely on contributions from individuals and local businesses (please see our Sponsors page for the full list of current business sponsors), all of which goes toward bringing incredible musicians to our region and keeping ticket prices affordable for our patrons.
Our Board is comprised of four volunteer members: Tony McCadden, Derek Hunt, Amanda Spink and Patrick Warner (not pictured) and the Stage is led by our Artistic Director, Sandra Whitworth, all of whom make music a key part of their lives. The Board also relies on support from a cast of volunteers who take on many important elements of helping us to promote the shows and create a welcoming environment for our audience and artists!
